B the Change

B the Change
PROUD TO BE A B CORP

Instead of being the best in the world, how about being the best for the world? In 2010, we joined a community of 900+ companies around the globe that are proudly certified as B Corporations. A new type of company that focuses on environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate accountability, B Corporations are changing the modern economic landscape and encouraging others to "B the Change." The wide-ranging community consists of major corporations, one-person startups, and everything in between. Companies like Patagonia, Method, Etsy, Seventh Generation, and of course us at Sencha Naturals, are all aligned for a bigger purpose.

As a certified B Corporation, we believe that every company, no matter how small, can make a difference. We take the sustainable road less traveled and measure success beyond profits. We volunteer in our community, give back to various charities, work with local and sustainable suppliers, use biodegradable and recyclable packaging materials, and participate in micro-lending programs to give opportunities to those less fortunate.

Come join in! To become a B Corp yourself, or to find other B Corps that you can support, visit www.bcorporation.net

B The Change In 2016-2017

Part of being a B Corp includes striving to be the best to improve social and environmental performance. Here are some examples of how we have answered the call to "B the change" this year.

B THE CHANGE IN 2016-2017
Community

Sencha Naturals donates and supports Love146, an organization that helps end child trafficking and exploitation. Together, we can understand the realities of human trafficking and empower communities and youth across the world to stand up against it. Learn more at Love146.org

Adopt a family program with A Place Called Home (APCH) Last year we adopted a family in need for the holidays.

Volunteer at Wild-Life Waystation: which includes gardening, animal enrichment, and light construction.

Social

In 2016-2017 Sencha Naturals hosted several events for the staff including a heritage day gathering, our yearly potluck, in which everyone brings a dish specific to their culture to share with everyone. This allows us to celebrate and appreciate our differences and connect with each other to build healthy work relationships for a great work environment.

Environmental

It’s what’s on the inside that counts, and we’re proud to say we've carefully sourced all materials from our green tea, right down to our labels and glue. As a certified B Corp, we strive to care for the planet any way we can and believe our green color represents so much more than green tea, it represents our green values. We challenge ourselves to use only what we need when it comes to finite resources like natural gas, electricity, and water. We analyze our power usage on a monthly basis, run our conditioning and heat on timers, participate in recycling programs, taking extra care to recycle batteries and potentially hazardous materials in the appropriate facilities. Solar energy currently makes up about 80% of our operations.

We have an expectation that our suppliers share our values; meaning, eco-friendly, ethically produced materials, free of GMOs and suspect additives. We are committed to “buying local” as much as we can; giving priority to those nearby (75% of our suppliers are operating within our region) in a concerted effort to reduce fuel consumption, while simultaneously supporting local economies.
