Green Tea Benefits 101

Matcha has been getting a lot of publicity lately, but it is really that good for you? Well, yes! Studies are indeed showing the efficacy of green tea and matcha powder in a variety of lab experiments. Here are just a few promising benefits to hopefully get you started on your own matcha habit.

SUPPORTS WEIGHT LOSS GOALS

Fighting the battle of the bulge? Green tea might help! Several studies have shown that green tea helps improve metabolism and increase fat burning during exercise, which supports increased weight loss. It has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance (thus promoting a healthier blood sugar balance), which helps support healthy weight.

CALMING ENERGY BOOST

How can something produce a sense of calm AND energy? Green tea contains an amino acid called L-theanine, which has been shown to promote a sense of relaxed focus. When paired with caffeine (which also naturally occurs in green tea), L-Theanine gives a subtle boost of energy, yet prevents the dreaded caffeine crash that's often associated with coffee. This relaxed focus is why matcha green tea has been consumed by Zen monks for hundreds of years, as it allowed them to meditate for hours without falling asleep!

CHLOROPHYLL FOR DETOX

Whether you haven't been eating well lately or you've had one too many long nights, a good detox will do your body good! Green tea is loaded with chlorophyll, which is the naturally-occurring substance that gives plants their trademark green color! In humans, chlorophyll has been shown to help the body rid itself of toxins and heavy metals, which may help reduce the feelings of sluggishness and fatigue that are too common in modern life.

CATECHINS FOR ANTI-AGING

A type of antioxidant that promotes cellular repair, catechins are the major source of all of those amazing green tea health benefits you hear aboutThe specific type of catechin found in green tea is called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate... got that?), and it is said to be responsible for disease prevention and anti-aging. More catechins, please!

ORAL HEALTH

Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that have been shown to inhibit the growth of oral bacteria, which promotes fresh breath and helps prevent cavities and gingivitis. Green tea also contains some naturally-occurring fluoride, which helps keep teeth and gums in top shape.

OK, but who has time to drink multiple cups of tea per day? Matcha to the rescue! While many of these health benefits require regular daily consumption of green tea, the good news is you don't have to drink it.

With our Sencha Naturals matcha powder, you can add green tea to all your favorite recipes!
